If you have known me for a while, you probably know it was time for us to move - yet again. We have moved every two years for the last six years and our journey from the beginning of our marriage has gone like this:
King of Prussia, Pennsylvania>>>Virginia Beach, Virginia>>>Stuttgart, Germany>>>Monterey, California>>>Singapore>>>Colorado Springs, Colorado>>>NOW, Cambridgeshire, England {United Kingdom}
That is my normal, which for a lot of you seems absolutely maniacal. Honestly, I’m not really sure how I have managed to stay sane with them all. (My kids and husband would probably say, “Mom, you haven’t, your crazy.”) But, this last move was definitely the hardest on all of us, especially our children. Dave moved to England ahead of us in May and the kids and I stayed in Colorado for the summer. He was going to get our new life established in the UK and I was going to close everything up stateside, plus the kids would finish their school year and hang out with their friends, we would visit family and I would photograph 17 weddings. (yes, you read that right - 17 weddings between May and August)
Needless to say, it was busy. At the same time, we were selling a house, selling two cars, applying for UK Visa’s (not easy), packing/moving an entire house overseas, and sending three cats. It was exhausting and honestly, way too much. I was stressed out, the kids were stressed out, my husband was stressed out; I didn’t sleep enough, drank too much coffee and wine, ate out way too much and gained over twenty pounds. My health had taken a back seat and quite honestly, so did having fun and living life.
I have always disagreed with the “you can have it all” lifestyle - because in order to have balance, you have to balance your life through each of its phases. With this move to England, I am making a conscious effort to change the balance in my life again. Yoga is part of my daily life again, my family ABSOLUTELY comes first and we are having dinner at our dinner table every night again, my priorities are back in order with my personal life and now I can focus on running a successful photography business again, after moving it again, to another country again.
You will begin to see the blog posts come back detailing all of those beautiful weddings from Colorado this past summer, as well as see my travel photography reemerge. Let’s begin this next journey and see where the next few years takes me. xoxo
